Biographical Background:
I was born and raised in Pniel, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. My father, Jack, and mother, Mildred Van Wyk, raised seven siblings, six of whom became teachers, while one worked in the private sector. Three siblings — myself, my brother Milton, and my sister Joaline — obtained PhDs in Education from Stellenbosch University. I also achieved other academic qualifications, such as a Higher Diploma in Education, a Bachelor of Technology in Education Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and a Master of Philosophy in Education.

Teaching Experience:
With over forty years in education as a teacher, principal, deputy principal, and Head of Department at primary and secondary school levels, as well as a university lecturer, I possess extensive expertise in educational leadership and curriculum development. The main subjects I taught at the high school level were Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics. As a lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, I was responsible for teaching Professional Studies and Education for BEd students.

Community Service and Engagement:
As a former principal of Simondium Community Learning Centre for more than ten years, I have gained a deep understanding of the complexities of education and community development. Many adult students from rural and farming communities were able to complete their high school education at this centre and study further to obtain qualifications at tertiary institutions, ensuring permanent employment and improved livelihoods.

Publications and Research Interests:
"Crossing Boundaries" is the first book I published in 2025, and it is a storybook. The book draws on my doctoral research at Stellenbosch University in 2020, which aimed to explore the lived experience of primary school principals as instructional leaders in their daily professional practice. My Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree, obtained in 2012 from Stellenbosch University, explored the post-literacy perceptions of adult learners at a rural community learning centre in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
